October 2017
Dear Friends,
For all my customers in the southern United States and on the Caribbean islands I want you to know how close you were in my thoughts throughout the season of storms.  I'm hoping that all of you were safe.  Now as the western U.S. wildfires rage, for those customers who live there or have family in the area, I offer my prayers for the protection of your loved ones and property.  The world of needlework is made up of kind and loving people -- we are "stitched" together by our love of the craft and now by our concern for each other.   My newsletter mailing list is extensive, numbering 1470 addresses, with customers from all over the world.  Often when an event occurs, I scan down the list just to "send" my heartfelt prayers to those who might be affected.  Best wishes to all who have visited The Wooden Needle

The fall foliage season has been interesting here in Vermont.  Really it should have been called "extended summer."  Temperatures of over 90° for several days in late September as well as little or no rain for 3 weeks made for later color but provided more "play" days for biking, hiking and golf.  Winter will be here soon though -- the mountain folks announced last week that opening day for skiing will be Nov. 17.  So that means it's also time to think stitching in the comfort of our nests in the evenings!

For cross stitchers, the "Classic Colorworks" line of threads has been increased again in the shop.  I'll keep adding until the space where it hangs is filled so let me know if you need some.  The new Main Street designs from "Country Cottage Needleworks" and Early Americans from "Little House Needleworks" have been popular.  You can do each of the series as a whole cloth piece or as individual blocks of the ones you like the most.  I have the charts, fabric and threads for each.  Let me know if I can help you get started.

In the needlepoint corner of the shop several new ornaments have arrived.  Take a look at Melissa Shirley's Designs to see if you would like an ornament to stitch for next Christmas.  A 15% discount will be given If you order one of her canvases by Oct. 24.  Also, I added more colors to the Vineyard Silk board and I can order any others that you need.

The wonderful colors of the season entice me to reach for beautiful threads.  I'm looking over my stash of projects to decide what I should start.  I know a needlepoint model for the shop should go by my chair (next to the 2 cross stitch pieces already started).  Of course I can also sift through the pile of "in progress" quilts in my sewing loft and try to finish one.  How lucky are we to have the lovely needlearts to give us peace of mind and heart!  "My day is not complete until needle and thread meet."  May you find peace in your stitching chair!

**Remember to always call the shop first before traveling any distance just to be sure that it's open.  At times I have to close unexpectedly and I don't want you to be inconvenienced.

Xrossing in Friendship,
Kathy
