March 2015
Dear Friends,
What a great winter!  All that snow and cold -- perfect for lots of stitching!  Of course here in Stowe we've been doing a happy dance because the ski conditions have been super as well.  I hope you have been healthy through it all and enjoying some time for yourself with needle and thread.

I am so sorry to share some very sad news with all of you.  Our dear Allison Brayton has passed away at the age of 98.  Some of you had the opportunity to share stitch camp with Allison.  Even if you never met her in person you still knew of her when you admired so many of the beautiful linen models in the shop.  Most of those models were stitched by her strong and capable hands.  I have lost a dear friend and The Wooden Needle was lucky and graced to have her for 10 years! God bless you, dear Allison, with peace and golden needles.

With so much happening in our lives last year, Barbara and I were unable to plan "STITCH CAMP" but we've missed you and are ready this year.  Please join us on Sunday April 19.
*Cost = $35.00
*Reserve your space by Tuesday April 7.
*Shop at The Wooden Needle 10:00 - 12:00 a.m.  Spend the afternoon at the Hob Knob Inn & Restaurant where you will enjoy friends, a beautiful lunch and time to stitch on the project of your choice.  Bring stitching tools, a light/magnifier if needed and a project or purchase a new one at The Wooden Needle.  Remember that this is a restaurant dining room.  Extra lights are set up for your comfort, but you may have your own preferred lamp.  If you need a special pillow for your back, bring it along.  Although we do more chatting and eating, we do try to get some stitching done so we want you to be comfortable!  Also, don't forget show & tell -- all stages of completion are encouraged!

A few weeks ago one of the finishers to whom I have sent many of your needlepoint ornaments called to say she and her crew would be retiring this spring.  I have made contact with some others and still have one very good one, but I wanted you to be aware that there appears to be fewer needlepoint finishers available these days.  That being told, heed your time for finishing special projects (lead time 10 - 12 weeks for finished items to return to the shop).  I will post deadlines when I know them.  Also, for this year I will take off 20% from the finishing quote if you allow me to send your item to one of the finishers with whom I've had no experience.  They do come recommended from another shop.

Recently I joined a terrific facebook group.  Those of you who enjoy primitive style cross stitch will enjoy the pictures, patterns and info shared by this group.  Here is the link:

Not to be left out, the facebook group, Needlepoint Nation, is a dynamic group with amazing photos of canvas work in progress as well as beautiful finishing ideas:

Have fun being inspired  by "friends" while you "follow" those who enjoy your favorite stitching style!  Don't forget that The Wooden Needle will be happy to order the items you see that are necessary for building your stash!  I am all about enabling!

Within the past month both the cross stitch and needlepoint industries have held their markets.  Please take a look at your favorite designers' websites and let me know if I can order something special for you.  Here are a few of my favorites:

We have all heard that "Spring is just around the corner," but I have learned so well lately to not wish away the time we have.  For many it has been a long winter, but take time to embrace one more cold day, put on a pot of soup and stitch, stitch stitch!  When the sun finally comes out and you are in your gardens, the earth will smell so wonderful!  Be safe and healthy, my friends, and I look forward to your visits to The Wooden Needle

Xrossing in Friendship,
Kathy
