February 2012
Dear Friends,
Happy Valentine's Month! I find this to be a wonderful time of year. We're done with the busy-ness of the holidays. I can spend hours looking at gardening catalogs, but no outside work for awhile yet. The best thing -- lots more stitching time by the fire. Hopefully you're enjoying some much deserved time to work on a project or three! Every week I hear someone say they would love to get something new, but have too many "works in progress" ("wip"). Here is my solution: First, while you're in the shop, pick out the project that's calling your name. Next, go home and set up the new project. In other words, get all the necessary threads, chart/canvas together, even threading the first needle. Now if you purchased it from The Wooden Needle, your friendly shop owner has already set it up for you -- she even edged your fabric or canvas and gave you an appropriate needle. Looks good and feels good, right -- just can't wait to get started, but no fair taking the first stitch yet! Put that project in your workbasket next to your stitching nest. Now pull out one "wip" that you would most like to finish. Every time you get to settle into your nest is a "stitching session." You work on your "wip" for 2 stitching sessions and then guess what comes next?! The third stitching session you work on your new project! Yes! Then repeat. You will finish those "wips" and get to work on something new. As soon as you finish your first "wip" get yourself back to The Wooden Needle and pick out a new project. REPEAT! Whew! Happy to help!
*Stitch Camp: Sunday, March 25 -- $35 (Reserve by Saturday, March 17)
Reserve your place for this popular event! We had 21 ladies from VT, CT, MA and Montreal last March and November who shopped, ate, chatted and oh yes, stitched. Start your day shopping here at The Wooden Needle after 10:00 a.m. Then head up to the Hob Knob Inn on Mountain Road where Barb Fisher has brunch goodies galore and your stitching station all set to enjoy until
5:00 p.m. Bring your own project, stitching tools and light/magnifier if needed (this is a restaurant dining room and we provide some additional lamps, but if you have a favorite, bring it). A suggestion was made that you might want to stitch a name tag to wear. More comfortable than, "hey you!" Would love to have you join us!
*Trade Shows are happening this season and The Wooden Needle is keeping in touch with all the latest needlepoint and cross stitch designs! Pay close attention to www.hoffmandis.com after Feb. 25 when the Nashville show will take place. Lots of cross stitch! If you see something you want, let me know. For the needlepointers, the Phoenix show was 2 weeks ago so lots of canvases are hitting your favorite sites:

~ If you love detail & Asian, Leigh's designs are surpassed by no other. Her pagodas were very popular last year as seen in "Needlepoint Now" magazine. This year is "Shogun!"

* If you're a Lizzie Kate cross stitching fan, be sure to check into her blog. She offers contests and gives sneak peaks of her latest designs. "Six Fat Men" designs are flying out the door.

*Last but not least -- just to get you motivated! These finishing dates are serious, no exceptions:
Halloween: July 25
Christmas: August 31
belts: September 15
*Please remember to call the shop first before traveling any distance. If I don't answer, I will call you back if I am here. Thanks so very much for your continued support of my tiny shop. You are still the best part of the business!
So here's wishing you lots of hugs and hearts this month! Spend some extra time with someone special!
Xrossing in friendship,
Kathy
